How To Teach Math Using A Nintendo Wii
Jan 21, 2011 English 1st Paragraph
Teacher Robert Drewnowski had only $300 in grant money to help him develop a more effective way of teaching math to fourth graders. He used it to buy a Wii. […] What Drewnowski does is offer the Wii as an incentive. If the children do well with their work, they’ll get a chance to play Wii Sports in class. But that’s just a carrot on a stick. where does the learning come in?
- Wii is a home video game console with wireless controllers.
- A grant is an amount of money given by the government to a school, hospital etc for a special project.
- develop a more effective way of teaching: to create (little by little) a better way of teaching, a way of teaching with better results
- offer the Wii as an incentive: give the Wii (to the children) to encourage them (= make them want) to learn
- That’s just a carrot on a stick: It’s only a way of encouraging them (to study) by giving them small awards when they work well.
