Should e-mails open with Dear, Hi, or Hey?
Jan 22, 2011 English 1st Paragraph
It’s time we ditched “Dear…” from work e-mails, according to a US political figure, who says it’s too intimate. So what is the most appropriate way to greet someone in an e-mail – hi, hey or just get straight to the point?…
- If you ditch something, you throw it away or not use it anymore because you no longer need it.
- according to a US political figure: a US politician says
- it’s too intimate: it shows a very close friendship or personal relationship
- the most appropriate way: the best or most suitable way
- greet: welcome; say hello
- get straight to the point: immediately start writing about what is important (without introduction or greeting)
