200 Countries, 200 Years

Visualisation is right at the heart of my own work too: I teach global health. But I know having the data is not enough. I have to show it in ways people both enjoy and understand. Now I am going to try something I have never done before: animating the data in real space with a bit of technical assistance from the crew. So, here we go! First an axis for health: life expectancy from 25 years to 75 years. And down here an axis for health: income per person…

  • When you visualise something, you make a picture of it in your mind (or on a screen) to understand it better.
  • crew: a group of people who work together, especially all those who work on and operate a ship, aircraft, etc or the cameraman and other people who make a film together
  • A chart usually has two axes: the horizontal axis (from left to right) and the vertical axis (from bottom to top).   [Note: The singular is axis. The plural is axes.]
  • Life expectancy is the number of years a human being is likely to live.
