 Gholestan, Fakhri

Fakhri Golestan
Fakhri Golestan was born in 1926 in Tehran.

She is a specialist and authority on child psychology and education, having spent more than twenty-five years educating and caring for orphaned children and children who, for various reasons, were seprated from their parents.

At the age of fifty-six, after retirement from her responsibilities at the orphanage, Golestan turned her attention more seriously to her creative interest in ceramics and the art of pottery, self-educating herself on the intricate technicalities of this art form. She explored the complex world of glazes by experimention and trial and error. After two years of efforts, she exhibited her first collection of ceramics, and since then has been giving annual shows regulary.

Fakhri Golestan believes that "..one can tackle any creative projects, however difficult it may be, at any age! Age should not be considered as a deterrent for not being creatively active. The passage of time is no reason for becoming lazy..."

Golestan works on a regular daily basis at her home studio-workshop in Tehran. Her work, has never conformed to 'ordinary' or traditional concepts of pottery and ceramics: each piece is a combination of searching for new forms and imaginative experimentations in the world of colors and glazes, ultimately reaching an original creation, an 'object' that embodies a sensitive, colorfull and perception of life....

Golestan continues: "...One can work and the passage of time, and to continue the flow of mental and physical activities at any age. Even at the age of seventy-two!..." Fakhri Golestan's creations, proudly exhibited by her daughter in the Golestan Gallery, is a testimony to her wordds and beliefs.
