The Applied Medical English Course |
 |
The Applied
Medical English Course (AME) employs a communicative and
applied approach, that is to say, the material used and
the areas, situations and topics covered will be mostly
related to your work environment and
there will be an emphasis on the ability to "communicate
and use" the language rather than learn "about" the
language.
There
will be no pre-teaching of grammar and vocabulary.
Rather the students are plunged directly into an English
atmosphere relating to their life and work
(semi-immersion) with grammar and vocabulary points
explained when needed along with the flow of the lesson.
The
course combines general language skills (listening,
reading, speaking and writing) with the specific needs
of the medical community, such as:
•
Communicating with English-speaking patients
• Communicating with English-speaking colleagues (case
reports, lectures, conferences, etc)
• Correct pronunciation of medical terms and expressions
• Understanding radio and TV programmes and lectures on
medical topics
• Faster reading of medical texts, websites etc
This
course is taught by a medical doctor who is also an
experienced language teacher and pedagogic consultant.
